Considering Yours Truly
Since I was a kid, I have felt this strange compulsion to write, edit, and re-edit my life. I can’t seem to choose one path and stick to it. Oh, surely there’s a method to the madness. But I constantly find myself backtracking, reworking, creating new paths that meander and twist in strange and, sometimes, wonderful directions. It’s an artful adventure. It really is. Not always the most fun, I grant you. And certainly a bit unsettling. But that’s life. Right?
All these compulsions, I believe, stem from my greatest passion: writing. Through my writing, the strange meandering roads of my life become straight and wide … a clear path to a more magical, mystical world than I could ever experience in real life, where bills and responsibilities inevitably reign.
I harbor a desire to write a novel – though not the great American, I’m afraid. And I have a screenplay swirling around in this peculiar brain of mine – I think it could be pretty cool, if I ever get around to writing it. I’ve jotted notes for two different series of children’s picture books. And every now and then, out of nowhere, a poor excuse for a poem erupts from my mind.
But my focus – at least for now – is fan fiction. Particularly, fan fiction for the television show Beauty and the Beast, which aired from 1987 to 1990 and has garnered a fan following spanning more than 20 years and at least that many countries worldwide. I love this fandom. It’s a community of people who reach out to others, who help those less fortunate, who take the example set by this magical television show and bring its message to life. Fans of Beauty and the Beast are a rare and wonderful breed, and I’m proud to count myself among them.
SO … what does this mean, exactly? It means I am a fan. It also means that I produce material that brings a little joy (I hope) to my fellow fans – readers who can’t give up on the dream. I put to words my own vision for the characters. I continue the story, explore the characters’ lives, introduce them to new situations and events. Essentially, I break the boundaries. And I hope that in doing so, I take the story in a direction other fans enjoy.
My fan fiction is published here at Considering Z. I’ve published work at other websites as well, and the links to those sites are included in the introduction to each story. Please feel free to browse.
Note: I sometimes post snippets from my work, or even whole chapters. Keep in mind that all works in progress are just that – works I have not completed. This means I may return to them and make revisions … many, many times. Don’t be surprised if, when you read the final version, it varies radically from what you might have found here. And don’t be frustrated if you wait eons for a new chapter … between real life and the fickle nature of my muse, I may experience long bouts of silence. Just remember this: no matter how long you wait, every story will be finished. That’s my commitment – both to my readers, and to myself. EVERY STORY WILL BE FINISHED.
All the work on this blog, and anything written by me on other websites, is my original work. The characters in my fan fiction are owned by other parties, but the stories themselves – the writing – is mine. Please show respect and do not reference, copy, print or publish my work, or the original ideas therein, without my explicit, written consent.
Thank you. I hope you enjoy!
